Owlbear’s Rest was conceived during a lighthearted “what-if” conversation on a long drive. Patty was working on figuring out what life post-cancer should look like. After such a life-altering experience, it felt more important than ever to embrace dramatic change and to pursue a fulfilling work-life balance. For Patty, the things that spark joy are coffee, playing games and building community. And so… Owlbear’s Rest was born.

How do you deal with guests lingering for hours at a table?
At Owlbear's Rest, we embrace the fact that our guests often immerse themselves in games for hours. Unlike traditional restaurants that rely on quick table turnover, we operate on a different model. By charging a gaming fee, we offset the slower table turnover, maintain our extensive game collection, and provide personalized services like game guidance and learn-to-play sessions. This approach allows you to relax and enjoy your gaming experience without feeling rushed.
Is there always a fee to play at Owlbear’s Rest?
Nope! You get to choose your own adventure.
If you're just looking to grab a coffee, a snack, or play a quick game, our Café area has no gaming fee and even includes a bonus library of short and casual games. It's a great spot to hang out, catch up with a friend, or check out Owlbear's Rest without committing to a gaming fee.
For longer game sessions, our Stay & Play area is where the magic happens! Think of it like a pool hall or bowling al- ley-one person opens a tab for the table, and an hourly game fee applies while you play. When you're ready to head back to reality, just close out your tab (it can be split among your group), and you're all set! Food and drinks can be added to your tab or ordered separately.

Aren’t restaurants too loud to learn and play games?
At Owlbear's Rest, we've taken several measures to create a comfortable environment for gaming and conversation, in- cluding sound baffles and strategic placement of furniture and sound dampening materials throughout the space. We're committed to expanding these efforts as needed to ensure that the only voices you focus on are at your table.
Do you have parking? Access to public transportation?
We have plenty of FREE parking in the lot behind Stackhouse Station and the Greater Portland Metro Bus #4 stops within steps of Owlbear's Rest.
